Up for sale is one of the Holy Grail\'s of Vintage American pipe collecting. It\'s a 1st. year (late 1931- early 1932)Kaywoodie Super Grain Grecian Briar Shank Logo. The Super Grain came out in 1932 and at that time was Kaywoodie\'s Flagship pipe. They chose Grecian Briar for these pipes and until 1935 all the Super Grain bore that stamp. That changed when Kaywoodie started stamping all their pipes Imported Briar in 1935. The Grecian Briar designation is more collectible than their Imported Briar counter parts and this one even more so as it has the 1st year only PAT. APP. FOR stamp. Most from that year had Kaywoodie over Super Grain in block letters. This one has a script Super Grain over Kaywoodie so it\'s a variant, probably just before they changed over. The Synchrostem PAT. APP. FOR stamping only appeared on those first Shank Logos because the patent had been granted and the stamping disappeared soon after.The bowlis nicelygrained with some quilting and cross grain.The stem is glossy with only light tooth marking and it lines up nicely with the shank (Kaywoodie Synchrostem pipes, if correct, always present left of center).The large 4 hole stinger is intact with a (barely) readable patent number stamp. Thenomenclature reads Super Grain Kaywoodie on theleft and Grecian Briar 5108 (51=Miami Brown finish and 08=Medium Dublin) on the right.The pipe measures app. 5 5/8\"L x 1 5/8\" H with bowl bore of 3/4\" x 3/4\".It\'s been reamed, cleaned and waxed. This is a highly collectible pipe in great condition.
