Rare! 23 ANTIQUE c.1900 Negatives & Photos EGYPT NILE RIVER PALESTINE ISRAEL vtg

Up for sale is a very rare group of 23 ORIGINAL ANTIQUE c.1900 PHOTOS & ORIGINAL NEGATIVES of EGYPT, THE NILE RIVER & PALESTINE! (Details of each image is shown farther down in the listing.) The negatives are in individual antique envelopes with handwritten descriptions! The negatives are very rare not only for their subject matter, but also due to the fact that they are cellulose nitrate film which usually disintegrates over time. These are very hard to find in such good condition!

These photos came from a very special collection of antique photos and negatives taken in the region around 1900.The exact nature of this collection is unknown, but it appears to document the travels of an American party through Egypt, with some photos of their travels on a traditional felucca boat on the Nile dated March, 1901. One photo from the source collection (already sold in a prior sale) was captioned“Presbyterian Mission at Luxor” and showed a group of people outside of an American Mission School in Luxor.Another appeared to showJames H. Breasted, a very (if not the most) important Egyptologist! The establishment of the American Presbyterian Mission in Egypt began as early as 1854, and part of their missionary work was building American Mission Schools to provide academic and religious instruction. The first schools were established in Cairo and Alexandria, with others being opened during the missionaries’ trips up and down the Nile River.

Could these amazing photos have been taken during a Presbyterian Mission through the Middle East? One photo from the source collection (already sold at sale) was captioned \"Museum of Egyptian Antiquities\" — could the famous James H. Breasted have been part of this traveling party during his field work in Egypt from 1899 - 1908?
