Rare Antique 1930\'s Girard Pressed Steel Wind-Up Siren Fire Truck with Water Tower
This is a rare vintage pressed steel wind-up Girard Siren Fire Truck with Water Tower from the 1930\'s. It is 14 1/2\" long and 5\" wide. The main body of the truck and side ladders have been repainted and it is in as found condition. It has the original hard rubber tires.
The wind-up spring mechanism and siren both work. The tower has a hose nozzle on the end and can be raised from a gear driven handle. It will also swing from side to side from the base which is mounted on a thin gear. The two small side ladders are removable.
There is some rust on the tower, ladders, front grille, bumper, wheel covers, spring and siren mechanism, axles and underbody. The front axle assembly would have originally turned the front wheels however it is now corroded. It could probably be made to work with something like Liquid Wrench. I believe there originally was a lever in the driver\'s compartment to turn the front wheels however it is missing. There also would have originally been two wooden fire extinguishers.
The manufacturers name is not on the truck however another er was kind enough to let me know it was made by Girard and provide the other details. It does have the words \"Made in US\" engraved under the back step of the truck.
