The front - opening with four toggles and gilt – metal buttons and trimmed together with sides opening in black satin silk.
The interior padded with silk wadding and lined with cream shade satin silk, quilted with a cotton fish scales pattern.

The Butterfly symbol represents love, specifically young love. Happily flitting from flower to flower – it signifies a happy social life for the young and young - at - heart (Yang energy). The flowers are emblematic of spring and summer, and the peonies also signify wealth and rank indicating that this Robe belonged to a young lady of the court.
This Robe comes from an old Canadian collection of Oriental Art, including Chinese robe’s and related items which we are in the process of photographing and placing for sale for the first time.
