This rare 19th century book is a compilation of poems by St Louis-born author, actor and poet Con T Murphy, published by the Detroit Free Press. It is signed on the inside cover, in pencil, by a previous owner. I’m sure the signature can be easily removed, but I did not want to take a chance on damaging the book. The condition is good, considering its age. No tears or other markings, besides the mentioned signature. All pages are intact. It may need some future work on the binding (see pictures). The complete book, in digital form, can be seen on the Library of Congress website. After some research on WorldCat, I could only find 7 hard copies of this book. Harvard, Brown, The Universities of Kentucky and Virginia, libraries in New York and Michigan, and the Library of Congress. I recently had the book appraised by a member of the American Society of Appraisers and Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America , and have a good idea to its worth. I by no means am an expert on antique books, and am providing information to the best of knowledge. I have no interest in deceiving anyone about anything regarding this book.
