Rare Antique J.U. James & Sons Folding Specialty Knife Sheffield England:
$24.95

This sale is for an antique J.U. James & Sons folding pocket knife. This knife was manufactured in Sheffield, England. I am not sure of the exact age of this knife but it is very old, probably early 20th or late 19th century. The knife is unusual and must be a specialty type because of the unusual blades. Possibly an equestrian knife. I don\'t think I have ever seen another one on like this and I am going to guess that this was hand made. The knife is heavy and weighs 7.5 ounces. The knife measures just shy of 5 inches folded. The main blade is about 3 3/4\" including the inscribed area. From what I have researched these knives were made by Little Mesters Shops in and about Sheffield, England of which J.U. James & Sons was a part.

The knife is in excellent cosmetic condition for the year with the lacquer on the handles still nice and glossy. The main knife blade has some typical sharpening scratches and is marked \"J.U. James & Sons, Sheffield, Eng.\" There is about 1/4\" of slightly snug play at the tip when the main blade is fully open. There is a thick spike type of blade (slightly short of 4 inches) which probably was used to make holes in leather. There is a small stress crack on the right side of the wood handle where the spike is riveted and two small stress cracks in the wood on the opposite side where the handle is riveted. The wood is secure though. There is also mini specialty blade which is about 1 3/4\" in length. This small blade is extremely tight and very hard to open. I am not sure of the purpose of the short blade. The knife closes properly with no slop when the blades are closed. Nice collectible antique knife!

Please email with any questions and happy offerding! Because of its age this antique knife is being offered as-is with no warranty implied or expressed.
