Rare Antique Old African hand carved Wood Bowl fromTuareg Nomads, Ethnic decor:
$55.00

Rare old hand carved wooden bowl from the Tuareg people of North Africa. This bowl measures roughly 3 inches deep and 8.75 diameter (it is not at uniform so those measurements vary depending on how you measure it). The Tuareg are a semi nomadic people living along the Sahel region in North Africa and are highly concentrated in Northern Mali. Traditionally the Tuareg would lead camel caravans across North Africa trading with various peoples. These bowls were traditionally used along these routes for substances such as water, goats milk, camel milk etc. and were often passed through many generations being repaired as needed, making them extremely hard to date. These were considered prized possessions and are often decorated with tribal nomadic patterns and filigree. This particular bowl is hand carved from a single piece of wood and has some wonderful patterns etched in the center and around the outside base. It would make a wonderful addition to a African Art collection or for use in your kitchen filled with fruit and nuts.
