Rare Antique Pair of Derby Porcelain 39 Hand Painted Bowls
Justunder 8¾” dia x just over 1¼” h, c. 1782-1810.
Largeround smooth edge shape on ring foot.
Widelight blue band around the inner rim of the saucer & upper half of theexterior of the cup between thick & thin gilt band borders. Within, a wavyline gilt band shaded with fine gilt lines encloses alternating gilt scrolls& inverted gilt scrolls with cornucopia extending from each center. Thearea between the wavy line & the scrolls is painted yellow. Pendant pairsof incurved foliation each surrounding a gilt star extend from the scrollstoward the center and alternate around with leaf form starbursts extending fromthe inverted scrolls. Gilt center circle.
Red byhand crown, crossed batons with 6 dots, & D mark of Derby Porcelain Works. Number 39 by hand in red. Thepattern is not recorded in H.G. Bradley\'s Ceramicsof Derbyshire 1750-1975.
Duesbury II or early Bloor, the red mark as such usuallythough not always after 1805. The script D with the long tail is usually foundon W. Duesbury I period pieces.
Small rim edge nick on one, otherwise no chips,cracks, hairlines, or repairs. Fine glaze crazing.
