What a unique Victorian aged genuine jade pendant. This is a rare Estate Sale find. A sumptuous green color of Chinese jade we no longer see in contemporary pieces, with a gorgeous genuine pearl attached to the middle. Beautiful “bright” engraving of a floral motif finishes the design on the white gold on its top and bottom.

In a strong light source, the jade exhibits an all over translucency and is cold to the touch. We can see under 10x magnification, fibrous irregularities inside the stone. We put it up to a light and got a good photo of the translucency but it did not photograph allthe fibers inside the jade.

The pendant opens and closes with a latch on its top. The metal on its top and bottom is 9 karat gold and marked inside “9C.” We acid tested the metal for 9 karat. The bale is contemporary, a yellow gold and tests for 14K gold.

Dimensions: Height 1-3/8” (not incl. bale); width is ¾”. The pearl is 8 mm. The jade strips are 6 mm by 4 mm in thickness. Weighs 9 grams.

CONDITION: It is our policy to describe all nits in antique and vintage jewelry. This 120+ years old pendant is in good antique condition with a couple of “aged” issues. Notably, its latch. There is a hole on the top and a beaded protuberance that sticks up and the latch closes by closing the top onto that bead that sticks up. See pictures. Over the years patina and dust has accumulated in the areas in the top and bottom “insides” where the pieces come together. Perhaps once the old accumulation of patina is cleaned off it will close easily. Right now, the latching together of this pendant needs coaxing of a fine instrument to get the latch to close and stay closed. Once closed, it will stay closed. When I first received it, it was securely closed together, it took some coaxing with my fingernail to open it. I opened it to observe its condition and also discovered its mark of “9c.” inside (gold mark for 9 karats). Since we never clean or repair old antique items, we recommend you take this to your jewelers for a cleaning/closing of latch.
