RARE& delightful Persian Islamic solid GOLD 18ct Ancient Ring

Thisis a wonderful and rare piece of Islamic history!

Thisring is simple yet elegant in shape and style with an exquisitepatina on the deep rich colour.

Thereis an abstract design executed using an ancient technique known as'niello' work. Niello is a blackmetallic alloy of sulfur withsilver,copper,orleadthatis used to fill designs that have been engraved on the surface of ametal (usually silver) object.

Niellois made by fusing together silver, copper, and lead and then mixingthe molten alloy with sulfur. The resulting black-coloured sulfidesare powdered, and after the engraved metal, usually goldor silver,has been moistened with a flux, some of the powder is spread on itand the metal strongly heated; the niello melts and runs into theengraved channels. The excess niello is then removed by scrapinguntil the filled channels are clearly visible, and finally thesurface is polished. The contrast of the black niello against thebright goldsurface produces an attractive decorative effect.

Niellowork was used by the Fatimids, Seljuks and other jewellers.

Itis of very high quality workmanship and may have been made for eithera child or a woman. Not everyone was able to afford gold in ancienttimes so this would have belonged to someone wealthy.

ThisUNIQUE and original piece of Islamic history is in excellentcondition.
