RARE BEAUTIFUL VICTORIAN SOLID SILVER STRAWBERRY SUGAR BOWL & CREAM JUG HM 1875:

On offer is this superb example of an antique,Victorian \'strawberry set\' consisting of a solid sterling silver sugar bowl andcream jug. The pieces are of the highestquality, crafted by Henry Wilkinson & Co in the mid-Victorian era, hallmarkedfor London 1875.

There are several factors that make this set stand outfrom other examples. Firstly, bothpieces are in super condition, hard to believe they are 142 years old. Each has a gorgeous fern leaf pattern surroundingthe entire body and a fancy geometric design around the rims in bright cutsilver.

There are two cartouches on each piece. One has what it is clearly an armorialcrest. This is in greater detail on thebowl due to its larger size. The depictionis of a hawk in the centre with a castle above him and a boat sailing on waterbeneath him. The circular cartouche onthe opposite side is blank. The interiorsare of a really lovely warm, rich golden gilt which is intact on both. Please look at the pictures for details. Also, please note that the pictures do not dothem full justice, they were very hard to photograph due to reflections.

You can imagine just how expensive these beautifulpieces of antique silver would have been to purchase in 1875 - they wouldundoubtedly have belonged to a person of wealth!

HALLMARKS: \"H W\"for Henry Wilkinson & Co; the lion passant for sterling silver; theLeopard’s Head for the London Assay Office; the date letter “u\" for theyear 1875; the duty mark of the Sovereign\'s Head, Queen Victoria, to show that taxhad been paid on this piece of silver. Bothalso have the design number stamped “6919”.

APROXIMATEMEASUREMENTS/WEIGHT: The bowl measures about 6cmin height to the top of the handles; 5.5cm in diameter across the top andweighs 74g. The jug measures 5.3cm inheight to the top of the handle; about 9.5cm in width from the end of thehandle to the tip of the spout and weighs 61g.So, a total combined weight of silver of 135g.

CONDITION: As noted above, the condition of both is super,just the usual signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Any dark marks, etc are reflections or areasof age-related patina.
