This compact (or case) was owned by Ellen Tuck \"Tucky\" French Astor who was married to John Jacob, \"Jakey\" Astor VI. John J. AstorVI was the Titanic Baby who was in the womb of his mother when she was lowered into the lifeboat on that tragic night by her gallant husband, John Jacob Astor IV, who went down with the ship. His fortune was equivalentto about 1.5 billion in today\'s adjusted dollars, and yet the age in which they lived was probablyjust assignificant to their lifestyleas the money they had to spend on it. For they wereboth true, British Baronial Nobility and fabulous life The young couple and enjoyed were wiped away by many things, not the least of which was the rising tide of war that engulfed the entire world and left little room for the beautiful indulgencesand vanities of a stylish upper class.
We cannot hold on to time, nor can we go back to visitwonderful daysand interesting people long gone. The Lost Generationor the age of the Great Gatsbymay be temporarily revived by reading F. Scott Fitzgerald, or we can hold it our hand in the form of a little Cartier Compact owned by \"Tucky,\" a pretty young girl who married \"Jakey\" a handsome young lad who survived hisNoble father, John, a paragon of American Nobilitywho, despite his wealth and privileges, lowered his wife into a lifeboat andquietly went down with the Titanic on the night of April 14, 1912.

Overall excellent condition, with traces of face powder still inside. As the pictures show there is no mirror. This might have been a case of somekindor just used for powder. Most likely, there was a mirror in it that was broken. For items with a history that is important to their value I always prefer not to alter them if possible. The story behind the broken mirror could be something significant. The new owner can have a little mirror installed for a few bucks. That is a prerogative that comes with ownership.
