Rare Cased Antique LOEWE & CO Cavalier Meerschaum Amber Estate Pipe Pipa Pfeife:

Here we have a superb and rare antique meerschaum estate pipe in the \'Cavalier\' shape, complete with egg-yolkamber stem,and housed its original fitted presentation case.
The patch on the interior of the case displays \"Loewe & Co, 62 Haymarket, London\".This was the prestigiouscompany\'s very first premises, opened in 1856. Therefore I suspect this pipe most probably dates to the late19th Century, especially as the Loewe company seem to have abandoned the manufacture of meerschaums in favourof briars by the start of the 20th Century.
The pipe itself has been carefully smoked, but unfortunately is missing the little attachment that would have screwedonto the end of the shank (see photo 7). The shank would therefore need plugging for the pipe to be functional again.
There is a slight gap between the shank and stem when it is screwed tight - and the stem has a couple of bitemarks.
The meerschaum is in great condition with no damage at all, just light scratches.There is a shallow layer of cake in the chamber, and some darkening to the bowl rim.
The case is in very good condition and fixes shut securely.
Please note: the pipe stand is not included in this sale.
