Rare Catawba Valley single strap handle jug ca. 1850-1860. Signed \"DH\". By either David Hartzog or his son Daniel Hartsoe. Both potters used the same DH stamp. David Hartzog was one of the earliest Catawba Valley potters.
-Stamp (upside down) is great. hard to find one more clear
-This jug has the very desirable early form, bulbous in middle while tapering at bottom. Form is very eye appealing.
-Stamped \"1\" below DH stamp.
-Beautiful green alkaline glaze with runs
-Three well difined grooves around neck
-Size:12\" tall
-Condition: ORIGINAL HANDLE has been reattached in 3 places. Upper handle portion at neck has never been off. small flake at lower base edge. Otherwise no chips or cracks. see pictures
-This truly is a beauty of a jug. Very hard stamp to get. Signed, great glaze & form. Great piece of early Southern Pottery
