This is a super rare engraving made for members of the 5th Virginia Volunteers (Union) ... The depiction is of Chaplain Joseph Little playing his portable field organ in camp with soldiers sitting around ... the top reads \" Falls of Kanawha West Virginia March 1864, the bottom reads \"Our Chaplain , Gives each of us a copy of this engraving to show our friends the way we sing and hold meetings in camp . He desires is to tell them to pray for us and him that we may prove faithful to our country and our god and not be found wanting in any day of temptation and trial\" the back has a light but readable pencil notation which I am sure is from Chaplain Little as I had at one time a requisition form in his hand that matched this it reads \" I just met Anthony\'s wife & the little child my lord bless &console you - J Little \"... This has been folded to what looks to be in a envelope there is 2 tiny holes visible in two fold creases visible when held to the light and some staining on the left side (see photos) . I believe there is two versions of this engraving as the State Archives has on with the same top as this but not the Month of March.. I found a copy of one is in The Boston Antheum library but can\'t be viewed unless your actually there (go figure ) I purchased this from a person (not a Civil War collector )that came in possession of some Ohio/West Virginia documents and sold everything off separately without trying to connect everything so there\'s a chance this was connected to all of that , but anyhoo this is a super piece , I know of 3 to exist this being one , any questions ask
