Rare Civil War binoculars / field glass ID\'d to Captain, 26th Wisconsin Infantry:
$199.99

This is a wonderful pair of Civil War, Army & Navy binoculars or field glasses that aremarked with theCivil War officer\'sidentificationof Captain B.L. Knox of the 26th Wisconsin Infantryengravedon them. These leather covered pair are clearly engraved on both tubes when they areextendedout fully. Both sides of the tubes aremarked with \"Army & Navy\" with one side having additional engravingthat states:

\"Captain B. L. Knox, 1861-, Company E\".

The other side eye tube is engraved with:

\"Wisconsin 26 Vol. Inf. July, Gen. Slocum, Comm\"

Thesmall focusing wheel tubeis engraved with \"USA\" and \"Big Nob\".One of the eye piecesareengraved with some lettersthat is hard to decipher with such small letters but I think it is \"GL4\".

The inside rim of the eyepieces are marked by the maker. They are a little hard for me to make out butone appears to say \"Cevetal???, Paris\" and the other is clear, stating \"Day & Night Glass\".

I have found just a few dings on the rim around the front lenses and surface wear to the paint on the raised painted areas on these field glasses. The leather covering is nice with no tears of splits but they do have surface wear and scratches from use.

These glasses are in wonderful condition for being 150 years old and still have a nice clear image when looked thru. Ipurchasedthese from an avid Iowa Civil War collector\'s Estate saleabout 4 years ago. I hate to part with them but I need to downsize.

The 26th Wisconsin was a hard fighting regiment during the war with battles at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Missionary Ridge, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain. the Siege of Atlanta and many more. During the war, the 26th Wisconsin lost 12 Officers and 176 Enlisted men killed or mortally wounded with an additional 77 men dying of disease.
