ITEM DESCRIPTION
Up for your consideration isa Fine and Rare Coalbrookdale (England)Cast Iron \"Slave Girl\" Figural Hall Stand , bearing English registry mark for Jan. 20, 1854, and model \"No. 94695\", the reticulated scrolled superstructure mounted with lion head hooks over the figure of a Greek slave girl with raised arms standing on round socle, acanthus umbrella hoops over shell-form wells, conforming plinth, height 85 in., width 36 in., depth 13 1/2 in. The estimated weight is 250 lbs.
The hall stand has snapped at the back, just behind the figures neck. It is a clean break, but would require professional restoration. One possibility is just to preserve the sculptural portion. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition, and complete including the original chain. The paint is not original, but has been properly applied and looks acceptable. There are no dents, dings, or detectable restorations. The piece comes apart in a few places, where it is held together with large bolts.
The onlyexample of this rare stand for salewas a recentsale record, where an identical stand sold for $8500 + a 20% buyers premium. The pre-sale estimate was $8000 - $14,000.
