We are pleased to offer this beautiful original hand colored botanical engraving by William Curtisfrom his work entitledFlora Londinensis, published between 1817-1830. This is considered to be the second edition of William Curtis\'s earlier work by the same title, this work wasenlarged by George Graves and William Jackson Hooker.

The impressive work is much more comprehensive in scope than its title suggests, for it embraces most of the English flora, and as a result of which it should be properly regarded as the first color-plate national flora. \"Curtis adopted the novel plan of having specimens drawn to a uniform scale and to life size, and most of the plates display a high degree of accuracy. In the opinion of Salisbury, the majority of the figures \'represent the most successful portrayals of British wild flowers that have ever been achieved\'\" (Henry II, p. 67). The fine plates are by James Sowerby, Sydenham Edwards, and Hooker. William Curtis is one of the great names in botany, the present work and his famous \'Botanical Magazine\' are landmarks in English botany.

The years have been very good to these particular plates as you can see. This is truly an investment grade print with no associated apologies necessary.

These plates frame up very well and look great individually or in a grouping.

We encourage you to contact us with any particular questions you might have.

Thank you for looking and please be sure and look at our other sales for other fine works by Audubon from the first as well as the 1860 editions of the Birds Of America. We also have other architectural, natural history plates as well as original maps, all guaranteed original.
