Rare Decorative Signed Large CHINESE Pottery Covered Rice Stew STEAM POT Qiguo? :
$80.00
Large at ~ 12-1/2\" handle-to-handle x 7-1/4\" high, and heavy at ~ 8 pounds 7 ounces, this very nicely glazed and hand-decorated stoneware item is meant to function as a rice/stew/etc. steam cooker (qiguo is a name my internet research stumbled across). DO NOT USE AS A COOKER (due to unknown components of the glazes and paints). USE FOR DECORATIVE DISPLAY ONLY. The magenta and cream glaze colors are reliefed throughout The grasses/branches/flowers scenes are hand-painted. The lid rim is decorated similar to the Greek Key style. I\'m guessing the handles to be images of a ram\'s head. The signed bottom is hand-incised, I\'m guessing by the artisan maker. I cannot hazard a guess at its age but its old based on prior usage condition at the bottom resting surface of the pot (photo #11).
Condition - chip at bottom resting surface of the pot (photo #11), chip and surface crack at perimeter underside of lid (photo #8), 1/4\" magenta glaze skip at perimeter side of lid (photo #1), surface roughness on lid (photo #4). Still, in all, a super display piece for the Asian collector.
