Description

A stunning, rare, lot of 2 antique Edwardian Scottish agate menu card/place name holders.By renowned silversmith Sampson Mordan.Both bear a design registration number mark of 402227; they are both Chester assayed, one in the year 1905 and the other in 1906; both have makers mark stamp SM& Co; one is numbered 12 and the other 13.Menu card/place name holders reached the peak of their popularity in the early days of the 20th century. Styles/designs in Edwardian society were made to reflect the opulence of the King himself, with his insatiable appetite for food, wine, women & hunting.From a private collection in Aberdeen; other items listed from same estate.Double disc form, on a circular base, with inlaid Scottish agate.Measurements: both are 3.2cm tall with top circles 2.8cm wide; bases are 3.1cm in diameter.Total weight (for both): 55.49gms.In good antique condition; the hallmarks to one are slightly rubbed but still decipherable (see image 13).Hugely collectable for both Sampson Mordan devotees and collectors of period Scottish agate.Will enhance any collection of period silver and/or Scottish Agate.Please view all photographs (which can be supersized) for clear detail of item on offer and condition.Box shown is for display ONLY and is NOT included in the sale.
