We find the history of dolls part of the joy of collectingand this charmingFrench beauty illustrates this beautifully. Wonderful andquite unusual in the ethnicrealm of doll collecting is thisantique,10 1/4\" tall, French S.F.B.J.* (signed)Moroccan female doll, circa 1905. Manufactured in Franceby *Societe Francaise de Bebes & Jouets,she wearsthecomplete authentic costume,
including jewelry, worn by the womenin this mid-east region (gold metal thread belt, bracelet and glass bead necklace and trim at the neckline and sleeves) and will add special interest to any doll collection. The lady wears luscious mauve, padded bloomer-type pants beneath her lavish antique lace skirt andhas a fine bisque, swivel sockethead incised: S.F.B.J./60/Paris/12/0 and has lovely painted features with gorgeous, blue enamel painted eyes, finely painted upper and lower eyelashes and eyebrows, rosy complexion and open/closed mouth showing a row of tiny molded teeth. (similar to the bisque dolls by French doll maker, Lanternier).She wears her complete original costume and has a soft brown human hair wig beneath her long, elaborate headdress, which is trimmed with gold beads. She has a five-piece, composition and wood-jointed body (heavy)with padded bust and painted boots and is in excellent condition.She illustrates how this French doll*manufacturing groupevolved their line of dolls just before World War I. (Jumeau was also a member of this prestigious group.) She has no damages, no hairlines no repairs and no odors and is from a smoke free home.
