An Ultra Rare Genuine Georgian 18ct Gold Fede Gimmel Ring c1780UK Ring Size \'K 1/2\', or US Ring Size \'5 1/2\'
This is a rare & important genuine English Georgian 18ct Gold Fede Gimmel Ring dating to the reign of George III c1780 that is in \'as found\' condition. This ring is in need of restoration as a part of one of the three ring\'s shanks has broken off, as shown(please study the detailed close-up photographs provided, which form an integral part of the ring\'s description).
This fabulous English Fede Gimmel Ring, which has been totally made by hand by a skilled Georgian Goldsmith, has been fashioned in finest 18ct Gold. It has beensuperbly crafted in threeseparatepieces; all in in superb detail depicting two clasped hands (a lady\'s hand held by a gentleman\'s hand), which open to reveal a double witches heart that they have been covering. Each of the two hands, which are beautifully detailed, fit togetherperfectlyand exhibit the true skill of the Goldsmith. Similarly the middle of the three rings decorated with the double heart motif, is perfectly formed; typical of Georgian Fede Gimmel Ring\'s of this period it has superb hand chased decoration depicting a flower to the side of each hand.
Overall this superb ring is in fine antique condition with only wear to the surface commensurate with age as shown in the photographs, but as shown a piece of a shank is missing and a repair would have to be carried out by a highly skilled Jeweller, preferably using laser welding technology to join a newly crafted piece perfectly and without risking heat damage to the existing ring. The three rings could then be be hinged to open and shut as they were originally intended to.Since I know most collectors would prefer to supervise the restoration of such animportantpiece Ihavedecided to offer it to enable the new owner to carry out the restoration using thei Goldsmith of their choice.
As was normal for the finest quality rings of the period this ring, which weighs 2.0 grams, is marked \'18\' inside the middle shank, confirming that it is made from solid 18ct Gold. Thisextremelyrare antique ring is sized as a UK Ring Size \'K 1/2\', which equates to a US Ring Size \'5 1/2\'.
