This sextant and case was owned and used by:
Lieutenant-Commander Allan Baddeley, Royal Navy
(b. 1884- d. 1943)
He fought and served in both WWI and WWII and gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in the service of the Royal Navy. He was accomplished author and journalist and died of illness while aboard the H.M.S. Victory.

Died onboard H.M.S. Victory April 1943, without issue.Included in this sale are the items shown in the numerous photo\'s I have provided for you to review. Items include sextant, wood case, fittings and book. The instrument appears complete with a deeply toned frame showing several areas of verdigris developing.
The sextant has a brass frame construction and has a 6 1/2 radius, divided on silver and reading to 10\". It has a swivel magnifier, 7 different shades and 2 mirrors and a telescope with a complement of lenses and accessories.Engraved in Script on the Sextant Arc Reads:
\"Heath & Co Ld. London SE\", \"Allan Baddeley, R.N.\" and numbered \"4566\".Certificate of Examination- Class A- Inspected By:

The carrying case is original dove-tailed mahogany, has brass screws, is properly fitted and has a rosewood handle with a white bone finishing plate. On the front are 2 brass twist knobs, a twist lock knob in the center and a recessed brass handle on one side. The interior is fitted with a custom press-button hook stowage, turning latches and custom scope storage spaces. Case measures (approx.) 10.5\" x 9.75\" x 5.25\". There are several cracks on the underside wood that has not been repaired and a repaired crack across the case lid.
