a very scarce older panel collected in theKupkein region,

East Sepik, Papua New Guinea,

decorated with geometric carved motifs,polychrome designs, natural pigments, the tongue sticking out is meant to intimidate the opponent, very hard to find such decorative and beautiful shields.

It was stored in the man\'s house and themotifs identify the clans in the village,

it is also considered a spiritual protectionwhen hunting or making war.
