You\'re offerding on a highly unusual circa 1920s art pottery lamp - it\'s a very forward-looking Art Deco geometric ball form with four triangular wedge cutouts on the upper half. Lamp base is about 9\" diameter and 8 1/2\" tall, extending to about 18\" tall to the top of the finial screw cap. Still has its original label - \"Leigh Art Ware\" with Mulberry color and design number 7 indicated. This company appears to have been a short-lived Ohio pottery, circa 1926 until the about 1931 when the Depression put it out of business - from what I can tell it may have been an art pottery offshoot of the Sebring Pottery Company. Their wares were very bold stylistically for the period and are scarce to find - I couldn\'t find another example of this lamp digging around on the the internet, and found one reference of a pair of candlesticks in this color.
Note that this piece does have condition issues - lamp appears to have been re-wired and someone damaged the lip probably by over-tightening the bolt to secure the hardware - a wedge-shape piece appears to be broken out and re-glued (see photo) - it looks like there is little pottery missing, though, so it could possibly be better repaired or restored. Also, there is widespread crazing of the subglaze, and one small bump that appears to be a byproduct of the manufacturing process. The lamp does work, but the top of the bulb fixture exhibits some rust so you may want to re-wire it with more appealing hardware.
All that said, still a unique Art Deco period statement piece - maybe one-of-a-kind at this point - and a great example of 1920s Ohio factory art pottery. Great presence and color!
