Rare Little Joe Otter Pairpoint Glass Cup Plate 82Thornton W. Burgess Society of Sandwich MassachusettsDescription - Other sellers, please stop copying; it\'s not nice

Little Joe Otter is delightfully displayed in the center of this Pairpoint Glass cup plate with his fishing pole, can of worms, big smile, and straw hat. A large fish skims across the top of the plate in chase of two smaller fish, while behind Little Joe\'s back another fish playfully jumps out of the water. The design for the 10th Thornton W Burgess animal character to be honored in the Burgess Commemorative Cup Plate Series was based on the classic Harrison Cady river otter illustrations featured in the Burgess animal story books.Pressing for Pairpoint Plate number began in 1980 and was discontinued in 1982. There were only 437 plates pressed with the 25 point edge; all of them were in the \"transition green\" color.

  • Boxes and padding are included for packing protection only. These are vintage plates and all boxes are stained, and have handwriting or labels.
  • Review photos using zoom to verify condition. I take some photos with back-lighting so you can see very fine details. The backlit photos generally appear a little different than the actual color. I am happy to take additional photos for you.
  • Hand production will inevitably produce irregularities. Thickness and colors measured by the human eye will never be exact from plate to plate, and no cup plate will be flawless. The pressed lead glass making process may introduce bubbles or shear marks.

Crystal cup plates will glisten and sparkle in the sunlight when placed on window sills, and make unique gifts.

Pairpoint Cup Plates are Made in America

The Pairpoint Glass Co., of Sagamore, Massachusetts, which is on Cape Cod, is the oldest glass making company in the USA.Pairpoint iswell-known and recognized for manufacturing cup plates. I often describe Pairpoint cup plates as the \"beany babies\" of the 70\'s because collectors traveled across the country to buy the latest, limitededitions. Designed, engraved, and pressed in oftenlimited numbers, these unique collectibles became a favorite among churches, institutions, and other private organizations who commissioned specific designs over the years.

Thornton W Burgess Commemorative Cup Plate Series

Thornton Burgess books were the most enjoyable children books that I ever read my child. We started with the classic \"Old Mother West Wind\" and continued reading over 70 of the bedtime stories. My mom collected the entire Thornton Burgess Cup Plate Series for my child. The little plates capture the finest details. Having the Burgess animal characters immortalized in glass is a wonderful way to remember the childhood stories.

About me as a Seller

I am not a collector. My mother lived on Cape Cod and was a very active member of the Pairpoint Cup Plate Collectors of America (PCPCA) and the Thornton W Burgess Society. She enjoyed thousands of these little plates, and had most, if not all, of the limited editions. About a dozen years ago, I sold quite a few plates for my mother, who was just beginning her Alzheimer\'s journey. Selling the plates on helped me re-engaged her with her passion for these enchanting little plates. As years passed, my mother picked out special plates to give as gifts. Hundreds of plates were gifts for aides, friends, and strangers; my mom loved sharing her treasures. Each Pairpoint cup plate has a story. I find the designs intriguing often spend hours researching a plate\'s history. Now,I am downsizing and it is time to pass the remaining little treasures on to new homes. I hope these unique plates bring a little joy into your life.
