Unlikeother jewels of this type that have the words machine-engraved, this jewel seems to have been engraved by hand.

A firend contacted an expert and collector ofthese jewles in London (where I actually got this one a number of years ago), and he said as follows:

The jewel depicted belongs to the Order of the Holy Royal Arch. These
earlier examples (1880-1910) were pierced as shown and
The earliest were of gold designed by the Mason and jeweller Thomas Harper.
Care must be taken as the Harper Lodge has reproduced these jewels and
they are available at about US $ 100.00as new ones.
The original are valued nearer US $ 500-700

I do not know enough to say what excatly this jewel is. It does look old, andunlike a new reporoduction. But, I am selling this item as is. Based on the verbiage above (\"these arlier examples were pierced as shown\") I am starting this sale at $250.
