Nineteenth century Japanese Chargers, a matched pair in the Imari Palette. Period of manufacture from around the late Edo to Meiji Eras (circa 1860-1900).
Both identically decorated with finely hand painted polychrome motifs featuring central dragon-phoenix medallions bordered by alternating reserves of swimming koi and floral brocades. The underside of the rims with stylized designs in underglaze blue of ribbon-bound brocade balls.
Thoroughly evaluated quality Japanese antique from an established estate. Not contemporary Chinese-made decorative imitation.
Condition:Excellent. No chips, cracks or restoration. Less than average wear for age. Please examine photos closely. The last image shows enlarged views of a typical spur mark, pinholes in the glaze and other expected indications of traditional manufacturing on the base of the chargers.Size: Eighteen inches in diameter.
