Rare Original Civil War Brown Leather Saber Strap - Probably Confederate States:

I purchased this leather Civil War saber strap in the 1960s. It is similar to Union Army saber straps I have owned, but has distinct differences that make me believe that it was a CS produced item. One is the color. It has its original medium brown finish (not faded black), instead of the regulation black US Army color. Another major difference is in the fringed knot. The regulation Union Army saber strap has braided/woven leather strips at the base of the leather fringe. This strap has an impressed design that mimics the braided pattern. The strap is in excellent, probably unused condition, with both 1/2 inch wide leather loops and all of its leather fringe. The total, unfolded length, including the fringe is 38 inches. The end of the strap is tapered to a blunt point, and has a punched hole 1 1/2 inches from the end. I guarantee that this strap is original and as described.
