Brief history of the Richard company.
This company was founded in 1845 in Lyon, France by Felix Richard.
In 1882 Jules Richard formed a partnership with his younger brother Max, as “Richard Frères”, and although this was dissolved in1891.The Richard company was particularly associated with a range of scientificinstruments: barometers, thermometers, chronographs and so on .
The company never produced miscellaneous photographicapparatus but concentrated exclusively onstereoscopic equipment.
The Verascopestereocameras (Stereoscope) wasthe basis of this entire side of the business. It was patented in 1891, becoming thebest-selling stereoscopic camera of the period. Central to the latter was the Taxiphote viewer, patented in 1899.
Richard’sCompany was one of the great scientific instrument makers and designers of thatage.
