This American Civil War postal history item is an unused illustrated patriotic envelope, that has been described as \"LINCOLN\'S LABORATORY\" or the \"UNION ALCHEMIST\". ~ The multiple color images try to create the impression that President Lincoln was making medicines, cures, soaps and foods to defeat the Rebels in the South.
... My photos show the exact item that you are getting. ~ Originally published by G.M. Whipple & A.A. Smith, Salem, Mass (1860-1875), the unmailed 5-3/8\" x 3-1/8\" envelope has toning, slight edge wear and very faint creases. ~ Also included is a lined sheet of writing paper, with a lithograph image titled \"AWAY DOWN SOUTH IN DIXIE\". This was inside of the envelope and may be another example of Whipple/Smith\'s printing work. This sheet is TORN almost all the way across the first horizontal fold. ~ This lot is authentic and original to the 1860s, but please do your own research before considering a purchase.
