Rare Unknown CHARLES AUGUSTE LEBOURG CHEF COOK French Cuisine BRONZE SCULPTURE:
$5000.00

SIGNED CHARLES AUGUSTE LEBOURG (1829-1906)This seems to be an unknown or lost bronze by this artist. I could find nothing by him like this piece. It measures 9 1/4\" in height and 4 1/4\" width. One of the bottom screws is loose, and the base does not completely lay flat, and the frying pan hasa dent in the front. But all this is easily repairable. The patina looks excellent with some worn areas as to be expected from over 100 years ofhandling. This may have been a special commissioned piece? I have not been able to find a record or anotherLebourgbronze like this.
It is really a well made andvery uniqueFrench Cuisinesubject for a bronze.Any further information about this piece is welcomed and I will add it to the description. Please ask questions before offerding.
Lebourg is arguably best known for his 50+ caryatids for the famous cast-iron Wallace fountain, a public drinking fountain seen all over France and in many parts of the world. They are named after the Englishman Richard Wallace, who financed their construction. A great aesthetic success, they are recognized worldwide as one of the symbols of Paris. A Wallace Fountain can be seen outside the Wallace Collection in London, the gallery that houses the works of art collected by Sir Richard Wallace and the first four Marquesses of Hertford.
