ART is the conventional name for collectors of vintage jewelry from the most famous and widespread stigma of ART in later works. The jewelry company ART was founded in New York City in the late 1940s. It was owned by Arthur Pepper. The more reliable data about the company is absent. Even the exact year of the liquidation of the company is not known, it is assumed that the ART worked in the early ’70s.
But, If to compare the amount of jewelry that are among collectors and dealers, with a similar design, it can be concluded that the company’s heyday was in the mid 50’s – 60’s of the XX century. Indeed, it was the “golden” age of costume jewelry. ART company produced jewelry in very different styles, including – the Renaissance, Victorian and Art – Deco. Basically decorations were carried out in flower, fruit and leafy motifs, and very rarely – figures of animals and reptiles.
Incredible designs of “Maltese” crosses, the extraordinary beautiful jewelry lines of small brooches in the shape of flowers or fruit, vegetables with colored enamels made very ART decoration very popular among fashionistas of the time. And, it must be noted, the owners of this costume jewelry cherished their “treasure”, this explains the excellent preservation of most Art jewelry.
