Here on offer is a rare vintage American tortoiseshell enamelled and gold plated compact and dance purse with its original pouch and a Lande lipstick, datingto around 1930.

An elegant American tortoiseshell enamelled and gold plated compact and dancepurse with a beautiful stylish marcasite embellishment. The outer case is beautifully enamelled in rich brown tones designed to mimic tortoiseshell, remarkably the enamel is free of damage. There is a heavily ribbed gold plated band around the centre of the compact and dance purse, with rectangular gold plated button to open it. There is some wear to the plate on the button. The marcasite is without loss.

The interior has a mix of polished metal and machine turned design across the surfaces and the spring assisted fittings. The base has a faux tortoiseshell bakelite comb, which appears to have had little or no use. There is a vintage red lipstick by Lande NY clipped in the base. The main body of the base is occupied by two compartments, the one to the left has a cream enamelled lining that is further divided. The next is a powder compact that retains the original powder puff, sifter and some loose powder. The lid has the original bevelled mirror that is free of damage or hazing. The mirror acts as a cover for a cigarette case. It looks as though at one time the owner may also have used it as an ashtray! There is wear to the interior surfaces in places.

The dance purse retains its original pouch which isa grey/black fabric with machine stitching.

The compact and dance purse is ingood vintage condition, it measures about 12.4cm by 8.9cm by 2cm not including thebutton and weighs 319g.
