From a Connecticut Estate sale comes this Astoundingly Beautiful Large Silver Plate AESTHETIC ERA SERVING TRAY by E. G. Webster.

There probably isn\'t an aesthetic era image that doesn\'t exist in this incredible piece of silver plate art which really belongs in a museum.

The gorgeous handles have nautilus shells, thistle, and foxglove as some of the design elements with the scroll form handle.

As shown, the four corners of the tray have mounts with thistles, shells, floral and foliate decorative elements amid stippled bands. The curved transitional sides have cross-hatched geometric designs with diamonds, each of which has alternating designs.

And we haven\'t even gotten to the surface of the tray. That has been engraved with two unrolling scrolls at each end with a large daisy with a leaf and hundreds of small flowers.

In the top middle of the tray, there\'s a smaller rectangular panel with a floral and foliate design on top of a band of what look like hieroglyphics. Just under that is a half moon (a traditional aesthetic element) and, at the bottom of the center panel is a worn tree branch with a pair of what look like doves.

I know the aesthetic designers tried to get a lot in their works, but I\'ve never seen so much in one fairly small piece of real estate before. This measures 16 1/2” x 24 3/4” handle-to-handle with the serving area approximately 13 1/2” x 19”.

Other than typical usage marks on the surface, this is in excellent used condition with no loss of plating that I note. And because it weighs almost nine pounds, the metal is so thick that there are no dents.

This was black with tarnish when I got it and I\'ve put some effort into polishing it because of its uniqueness. That said, it will still benefit from additional polishing and, as you can see from the photo of the back, I only polished that as I was hunting for a maker\'s mark.
