René Lorrain & Emile Gallois, Original Aquatint Etching

Artists:

René Lorrain was a Parisian etcher and engraver born in Nancy in 1873. He was a student of Gustave Moreau, and became well known for his colored etchings and aquatint etchings of landscapes and city scenes. He was the recipient of Paris Salon\'s award metals. In 1920 a bronze, and 1924, silver.

Emile Gallois was also born in France in 1882 and was a known for his impressionist paintings and costume illustrations, and was also regularly exhibited at the Paris\'s Salon.

Artwork:

Printed upon thick wove paper and with full margins, published and printed in early 20th century. Slight wear, and two tears, one in upper left corner (not pictured), and another lower left corner above edition number (pictured), and slight darkening from age and elements. René Lorrain signed his name on the printing plate in the lower right hand corner. Emile Gallois signed his name in pencil below René\'s in the lower right hand corner, and also added the edition number in pencil in the lower left corner.

This is etched and printed by René, then hand colored individually and edition numbered by Emile. This is 150/350. Once the print editions reached 350 the plate was then destroyed.

This aquatint etching represents a fine, original example of early 20th century French landscape art.

Size: 16\" x 20\", new dark \"Catalina\" blue wood frame with wire for wall hanging, glass. Taped on back was the original framing company\'s back paper.
