Richard Nixon Signed Letter 1980, w/ Historic Content about Iran, JSA LOA, RARE.A scarce and unique letter, where former-President Nixon discusses his decision to attend the funeral of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in 1980. Pahlavi was the Shah of Iran from 1941 until 1979. His regime retained close ties to the US and UK, while promoting rapid modernization of Iran. Eventually losing favor with the people, Pahlavi fled to Egypt and died the next year. Richard Nixon was one of only a few former world leaders to attend the funeral, and the highest ranking US official to attend. President Carter did not attend, and Nixon did not attend on behalf of Carter; rather, he attended as a thankful American citizen. He writes, \"I considered it not a duty but an honor to pay my respects to one who had been such a loyal friend and ally of the United States for over thirty years.\" Nixon was always known for his keen foreign policy; and here is yet another instance of his acumen.
A rare item, with political and historic content. Desirable. The letter is in fine condition, with three folds. The blue fountain pen signature is clear and bold.JSA LOA for signature authentication and verification. Any questions, please ask.
