Norwegian explorer of polar regions. He led the Antarctic expedition(1910-12) to become the first men to reach the South Pole in December 1911. In1926, he was the first expedition leader to be recognized without dispute ashaving reached the North Pole.

Typed letter signed “Roald Amundsen”. 1p., 6.0 x7.5 inch, Nome, Alaska, 1926 May 18. Signed in dark black ink. Amundsen extendsnote of appreciation to Alfred M. Collins, the president of the GeographicalSociety of Philadelphia: \"Hearty thanks.\" In fine condition, with pinholes to the upper left corner area. Collins was a well-known explorer and sportsmanwho made several trips to Africa and other regions in search of big game.
