A RARE ROBERT TODD LINCOLN SIGNEDPHOTOGRAPH

ROBERT TODDLINCOLN(1843-1926). Lincoln was the eldest son and only survivingchild of Abraham Lincoln. He wasSecretary of War under President Garfield and Minister to England underPresident Harrison. Upon George Pullman’sdeath in 1897, Lincolnbecame acting executive and then president of The Pullman Company, resigningthe position in 1911.

THOMAS T. ECKERT(1825-1910). Eckert was an Army officer during the CivilWar. He was Chief of theWar Department Telegraph Stafffrom 1862 to 1866, the Assistant Secretaryof Warfrom 1865 to 1867,and an executive atWstern Union. President Lincoln praised him for his workduring the Civil War.

PS.9” x 11 ½”. Sept. 1, 1902. No place. Arare photograph signed “Robert T. Lincoln” on the mountbelow his portrait. He inscribed it “General T.T. Eckert with appreciation &regards of Robert T. Lincoln Sept.1, 1902”. The American Book Prices Current shows one Robert Todd Lincolnphotograph selling at sale, and it was a group image. According to a curator at Lincoln’s home of Hildene in Montpelier, Vermont,Lincoln avoidedpublicity and would only sign letters and photographs to friends; this explainsthe lack of examples in the market. Thesignature is dark and bold. The outermount has one crack in the upper left corner, and the item is in very finecondition.
