ROYAL COPENHAGEN Zodiac Figurine

CANCER
June 21 - July 22 ** (The Crab)ROYAL COPENHAGEN figurine of CANCER from the ZODIAC series; approximately 26 cm tall (about 10 ¼ inches) by 12 cm wide (about 4 ¾ inches). CANCER wears some body armor (like the shell of a crab), and has two small crab claws on his helmet where Mercury would have wings. Cancer individuals cling to tradition, yet their moods may become as changeable as the Moon -- Cancer\'s ruling celestial body. Much like the Crab, Cancer is well protected on the outside but is often soft on the inside. Cancer is the Fourth Sign of the Zodiac. Perhaps more than any other Sign, Cancer is symbolic of the passive, receptive but profoundly powerful and encompassing female force in nature...the all-nourishing mother. The Crab itself is associated with the sea...the cradle of life. Those born under the Sign of Cancer should strive to find a safe haven in which their exquisite sensitivity can bloom and flourish. This MALE ZODIAC series of figurines were sculpted by Pia Langelund, who has created other bisque figurines for Royal Copenhagen, including the stunning PERFECTIO series of male and female nudes. Pia Langelund took her inspiration for this series from the series of female Zodiac sculptures created by Christel Marott in the mid-1980s and now produced by Royal Copenhagen -- their most popular and best selling series of figurines in many years. Following in Christel Marott\'s footsteps, Pia Langelund has captured the special characteristics of the astrological signs of the Zodiac, but this time using the male form -- each one graceful and strong, combining innocence and decadence. Like the female versions created by Christel Marott, these male sculptures have a beautiful, clear and almost economical style. The choice of classical subject and pose, rendered inbisque porcelain (without either glaze or painted decoration), creates the illusion that each sculptureis both emerging from, and resting on, a block of white marble. ** The dates of each sign vary slightly from year to year. Born in 1960, Pia Langelund graduated from the Kolding College of Danish Art and Design in 1990 after studying ceramic design for 4 years. Royal Copenhagen became aware of her great talent as a sculptor in bronze, earthenware, iron and granite, and she was taken on by the porcelain factory in 1991. She has been responsible for many beautiful creations since then, including a series of Primates, and a magnificent large lion cub, alsoproduced in either black or white bisque porcelain. For Pia Langelund the driving force is the sculptural challenge itself, and one of the recurring themes in her work is the strength and movement of the body in both animals and humans. Beautifully detailed in the finest Royal Copenhagen tradition.Sensual rather than erotic, both modern and classic, this would be an elegant addition to almost any décor. Other figurines in this series are available in My store, including female versions in both white and black bisque porcelain, from original designs by Christel Marott.EXCELLENT CONDITION (no chips, cracks, or repairs), and FIRST QUALITY(no scratch through the trademark). New in original box. (Box may show light wear from shipping and storage.) Fully marked on the bottom, including the three wavey line trademarkof Royal Copenhagen. Because this will require a box larger than one cubic foot, PRIORITY MAIL postage and insurance will cost $19 for one figurine, $29 for two figurines, $39 for three figurines; maximum three figurines per box. Time in transit to Canada should be 6 to 10 business days. In most cases, because of box size limits on international shipping, a maximum of two figurines will fit in a box. In some cases, EXPRESS MAIL has a larger size limitation, and may be the most economical way to ship three figurines. EXPRESS MAIL INTERNATIONAL to ITALY usually takes 8 business days, but can take much longer; please be patient. I do not ship to FRANCE.
