Royal Doulton is justifiably famous for the lustrousred glaze known as flambé.

Inspired by Oriental glazes at the turn of the lastcentury,

Doulton’s flambé made its debut at the St Louisexhibition of 1904

and was immediately acclaimed by connoisseurs of artpottery.

For more than a century, Royal Doulton artistsdesigned vases

and figurative models decorated with the rouge flambéglaze

and the production methods remained a closely guardedsecret.
