This porcelain piece is one of a limited edition that Royal Worcester produced under the watchful eye of naturalist and ornithologist-turned-designer Dorothy Doughty. This features a Yellow Throat (Geothlypis Tricnas) perched on a water hyacinth. Note the exquisitely delicate flower details and how the bird blends so well in his surroundings! According to the Worcester Porcelain Museum, this model was designed in 1955 and issued in 1958, with an edition size of just 350 pieces. Its wood stand is included.

The porcelain birds that Doughty made in collaboration with Royal Worcester are famous and highly collectible.She was hired to design American birds based on her studies of them in their natural habitats.Her birds were always represented as they might be seen in nature, despite the complexity of flowers & leaves, branches, and colorations, and balance and how that might translate into porcelain.Through her input and advances in china manufacturing, the level of detail and lifelike appearance in these figurines reached new heights. The American birds were produced during her lifetime. Her series of British birds and plates were put into production after her death.
