The medal was instituted by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on January 28, 1978 in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the USSR.Description of the medal.The jubilee medal \"60 years of the USSR Armed Forces\" is made of brass and has the form of a regular circle with a diameter of 32 mm.On the front side of the medal, against the background of high-flying rockets and flying combat aircraft, an image of a soldier of the Soviet Army with an automatic weapon is placed. To the right of the figure of the soldier on the horizon of the sea is depicted a submarine, over which the two lines contain the dates \"1918\" and \"1978\".On the reverse side of the medal on the circumference there are inscriptions: \"Sixty years\" and \"Armed Forces of the USSR\", separated by asterisks. In the center is an image of a five-pointed star with a hammer and a plow in the middle, superimposed on a crossed rifle and checker.The edges of the medal are edged with a ledge. All inscriptions and images on the medal are convex.The medal with the ear and ring is connected to a pentagonal kolodochka, covered with a silk moire ribbon of a gray color 24 mm wide.
