Soviet Table Medal of the Peaceto the Oceans Committee made from Brass from the recently scrapped SovietNuclear Submarine, circa 1990 – 1991 issue.

This is GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL item made andacquired in the early 90s – NOT replica or recent reissue!

The medal is very well-made, nice and heavy, insolid brass, measuring 51.5 mm in diameter (over 2 inches). The inscription isin English and Russian. This particular piece was made from the brass takenfrom a Nuclear Submarine of the Baltic Fleet scrapped during 1989-1990. Themedal comes in original case of issue with a certificate in two languages. Themedal is in excellent condition, and so are the box and the document. Thedocument specifically states that the metal is safe and does not pose any harmto health.

The medal was commissioned by the Peace for theOceans Committee which was organized in 1987 as part of the Soviet Peace Fund.The complete name of the committee was International Committee for Peace,Disarmament and Ecological Safety at Seas and Oceans”, but it was usuallyreferred to simply as Peace for the Oceans Committee. The medal was apparently intended as afundraiser for the committee, to be sold as a souvenir commemorating the end ofthe Cold War.
