General ofInfantry L.K. ARTAMONOV (1859 - 1932). A sketch map to describe the actions ofthe I Army Corps from 2nd to 4th August 1914, on a tracing paper, scale: 1 inchequals 4 verst, explanatory notes put by hand in colour and indicatedwoodlands, waters, rivers, settlements, roads, railways. The map indicated thetactical positions of Army Corps’ divisions and directions of their advance and combat operations, 96 x 63 cm. Place names are given in German. Theoriginal manuscript map, signed by the commander of the I Army Corps General ofInfantry L.K. Artamonov.

GeneralStaff Major-General F.F. Novitsky (1870-1944). A sketch map of the battle ofŁódź (Lodzinskaia operatsiia). The operational area of the I Army Corps between11th and 12th of November 1914. Alithographed sheet on paper, scale: 1 inch equals 1 versta, in one colour,explanatory notes put by hand in colour and indicated the tactical positions ofArmy Corps’ divisions and directions of their advance and combat operation,46 x 35.5 cm. An original copy, signed by General Staff Major-General F.F.Novitsky, the Chief of Staff of the I Army Corps.

The maps hadbeen prepared for the Commission of Inquiry of the Adjutant General Baranovinvestigating the circumstances of the annihilation of the 2nd Army under thecommand of Army General Samsonov in East Prussia. The report was prepared onthe Supreme name in three paper copies, each was supplied with a set of originalmaps and charts. In Soviet times, the investigation materials partiallypublished: Military History Bulletin, Moscow-Leningrad, 1935, No 2-3. A rareand important document of the epoch, which sheds light on one of history of oneof the most dramatic episodes of the Imperial Russian Army.
