The United States GAR was founded in 1866 for veterans\' of all ranks of THE UNION ARMY.

The GAR Badge (Medal) was authorized by the United States Congress to be worn by Union Veterans\'.

The edge of this medal is serial numbered \" A33046 \" which could indentify the original Civil War veteran with further research.
