GJ Paw sales is pleased to offer stunning cast bronze SeatedFigure of Buddha, from Nepal. The original Buddha, Sakyamuni Gautama, orGautama Siddhartha, was born in India in the 5th-6th century B.C. He was born into a noble family, but leftthis life to lead the life of a wandering ascetic and thinker. Reflecting onthe human condition one night while sitting under a Bodi tree, he awoke to findhe had realized nirvana, the state of absolute beatitude, and would not bereborn again. He spent the rest of hislife as a preacher, his teachings contained in a series of documents called theSutras. The symbolic gestures of the hands of Buddhas and Bodisattvas form a number of different ritualized andstylized poses known as Mudras, which is a spiritual gesture and an energeticseal of authenticity employed in the iconography and spiritual practice of Indian religions. Two hand positions are shown in this classic Buddha sculptural representation. The mudra of the left hand is called “dyana” and represents “perfect balance.”It is indicative of Buddha’s philosophy that one should not lead an overly indulgentlife and meditation is the key to enlightenment and liberation. It has beencalled the mudra of the Buddha. Theright hand is a mudra called Bhumisparsa, which means “touching the earth.” It is a symbol of faith and resolution, andcalls humanity to the power of his teachings. Sometimes, the two positionstogether are called Bhumisparsa. The faceted jewel in between the eyes represents the \"Third Eye\". The third eye in the statues of Buddha represents an abstract concept referring to a speculative invisible eye which provides perception of the reality beyond ordinary vision of the people. It signifies the entrance which leads us to the true inner reality of higher consciousness. And finally, the face is both serene andhappy, suggesting peace of mind can be a consciously delightful condition. The sculpturemeasures 9.25 inches wide by 6.5 inches deep by 13.5 inches in height (23.4 cm by 16.5 cm by 34.2 cm). It shows wear consistent with dating to the 20th century, and is in very good condition. This piece is evocative of all that Buddhistphilosophy has to offer, and would also be a welcome addition to a formalmeditation room, collection of Asian antiques, Buddhas, Buddhist objects orstatuary related to Buddhism or Buddhist philosophy.
