SIGNED LORRAINE TRESTER MODERN ENAMEL COPPER ART PAINTING PLAQUE VINTAGE 8 X 10:
$125.00

HERE’S A VERY NICE AND BEAUTIFULLY RENDERED ENAMEL-ON-COPPER PLAQUE OR PAINTING BY FLORIDA / WISCONSIN ARTIST LORRAINE TRESTER!

It should be stated right up front that Lorraine Trester always based her enamels on her original oil paintings and she frequently chose childhood memories as her subject matter. With this enamel-on-copper painting, Trester created a young girl standing alone among beach sand dunes and she is looking off into the distance at the ocean. Groups of sand grasses surround the young girl while two seagulls fly overhead. There is obviously an ocean breeze blowing past the young girl as the two red ribbons stream outward from her waist.

Still mounted in its original frame, this enamel painting measures approximately eight inches (8”) in height by ten inches (10”) in width. The overall dimensions of the frame are eleven and seven eighths inches (11 7/8”) in height by thirteen and seven eighths inches (13 7/8”) in width. The frame’s depth is one and one quarter inches (1 ¼”).

Signed “Trester” within the enamel itself in the lower right corner and the backside still retains an original paper label that reads, in part:

”This fine Enamel-On-Copper Masterpiece has been reproduced from an original oil painting by Romantic artist Lorraine Trester, and it is totally handcrafted by skillful master enamellers. Distributed exclusively by Ebeling & Reuss Co. and City of Industry, CA 91726; Devon, PA 19333”

The condition of the enamel painting is outstanding – essentially flawless! The faux-gilt wooden frame has a few small scuffs but generally speaking is in excellent and clean condition. The backside mounting paper has a few punctures but is still intact.

LORRAINE TRESTER BIO (the following is a complete reprint of an article written by Millie Wolff and published in the October 20, 1988, Palm Beach Daily News newspaper. Remember, this is 1998.)

“If it didn’t seem quite as sunny on the east side of Worth Avenue last year, it could have been because the Lorraine Trester Gallery was missing.

The gallery at 225 Worth Ave. is for the young at heart. It is for the romantic. It is for those who enjoy the reminiscences of childhood. Lorraine Trester paints all of this into her work. Much of it has a Victorian slant and takes the mind back to days of gracious living.

Because the gallery was being renovated, and the work took longer than anticipated, many Trester collectors were unable to add to their collections. And there are many collectors who have as many as 20 of these paintings or enamels.

The artist’s work is all done in oil on linen canvas. Much of it is reproduced in lamination. There are also small porcelains and jewel boxes with paintings on tiles.

The gallery has tripled in size. There is a pearlized feeling to the interior. Warm grey velour carpeting, satin striped wall cover, subdued oriental rugs with a touch of deep rose, track lighting, and delicate antique pieces of furniture add to the grace of the gallery.

Former visitors will miss “Crumpet.” The miniature Yorkshire terrier, who attended the gallery for 16 of the 20 years it has been on Worth Avenue, has been collected by dog heaven. His portrait remains as a reminder of his happy little presence.

Trester has been painting since the age of 5. Her early years frequently found her at the Art Museum in Saturday morning classes and wandering through the old master galleries Sunday afternoons.

She echoes the past. Having seen the delicate blond beauty of the fragile artist it is easy to place her as a child in her paintings.

Today she maintains the same discipline at her canvas. But the month of September is hers to while away leisure time while traveling Europe. You will find the geese from the Netherlands, white stallions from Germany, flower stalls from France in her work. But she doesn’t neglect her homeland. Frequently a snow scene will appear in which a dainty mother and child, hands in muffs, stride through a snowy lane with flakes fluttering about.

While she spends much of her time at her Wisconsin home, Palm Beach has become the center of her home and studio. You can find her work on Rosenthal china and Kaiser Porcelain in Germany.

Although Trester recaptures many childhood memories and incorporates travels in her work, she is permitted the artist’s license to translate and transpose.

Summer Lingers is a large painting filled with late autumn sunshine. Trees are bare. A small girl leads her pony through a meadow. A golden glow suffuses the composition.

A Season For Wishes is a New England scene in which a child sits at a table. She is surrounded by pets. A cat snoozes on a chair. A canary resides in a cage on the table. Through the window a horse and sleigh plow through the snow on the street. There is a cozy interior atmosphere.

A number of small enamels show a little girl feeding birds in the snow, one with a basket of flowers as a redbird flies nearby, a robin sitting in its nest and others.

Home Through The Fields is a group of children making their way through a field of waving grain. One child carries a bunny cuddled in its arms.

In Afternoon Tea, Trester has reproduced three old masters on the walls of a room in which a little girl plays the piano. Here is a miniature Monet, a Rembrandt, and a Corot.

You will find fairyland dream castles in the background of some studies. And on the back wall of the gallery is a large portrait of a Trester girl gazing out to sea. This has been reproduced by computer.

Lorraine Trester is seldom in the gallery, but she carefully supervises all hangings.”

(In addition to the article reprinted above from 1988, there is a very early exhibition review of Trester’s paintings published in the February 2, 1964, issue of The Post-Crescent newspaper from Appleton, Wisconsin.)
