Up for sale is a very nice Slingerland Radio King Tom Drum. The size is 13\" x 10\" and accepts modern heads easily. It was made somewhere between 1949 and 1954. The top hoop features the famous engraved logo. Correct Dodd dual muffler. 3-Ply construction ( Mahogany / Poplar / Mahogany ) with large re-rings.
This drum is in Very Good condition considering its age. Not bad, not great. Really very nice, especially as a players drum. It tunes up right and sounds really good. The Remo heads have plenty of life left in them. I have had this drum for a long time. It is generally clean, with plenty of vintage patina and mojo.
The White Marine Pearl wrap is original and in overall good shape. Some scratches, moderate yellowing, and a chip missing near the top. This area is stable, with no damage - just missing a little piece for some reason. The bearing edges are very nice with only minimal re-ring gaps that do not affect anything on this drum.
The hardware is nickel plated, except for the mounting plate. At some point, a later \'50\'s mounting plate was installed to use with Rail-Consolete type of mount. A well done modification. The holes from the original type of mount are covered both on the outside and inside. Most of us would consider this to be a major improvement, although is not original.
The tension rods are not original to this drum, but are correct period Slingerland, including the washers. I have added nylon washers as well. I think they really help the tuning of the drum and reduce the wear on the Nickel Over Brass hoops.
