Small late 19th century sampler worked in wool on punch paper - c.1890. This little sampler is just delightful with neat stitch work throughout. The centre of the paper is stitched with a charming two storey red house with a tall flower motif on either side. Home Sweet Home is stitched above the house with a diamond motif to the left and right, then the whole thing is surrounded by a red criss cross border.The punch paper is in good condition with minor discolouration and no breaks or splits. The sampler is behind glass so I\'m not able to see the reverse, but the colours of the wool appear good, though it is likely that the roof will have originally been blue or purple. The sampler is contained within a good quality bird\'s eye maple frame dating to a few years earlier than the sampler itself. The last photo is of the back of the frame and shows that it is missing its hanging hooks and cord.Measures 10 1/2 \" x 8 3/4 \" (sight size) and 13 1/4 \" x 11 1/4 \" including the frame.
